Located about 33km off the coast of Sao Paulo, Ilha de Queimada Grande is a beautiful island with an area of 0.4 km2 but no one lives.

According to estimates by scientists, the island is home to thousands of yellow-headed vipers, one of the most poisonous species in the world.

Snake Island is notorious for being the island of killers – the yellow-headed cobra in Brazil.

One of those famous stories tells about a fisherman who accidentally wandered onto the island to cut bananas and was bitten by a snake.

According to residents, from 1909 to the 1920s, several people tried to move to the island to build a lighthouse.

Discussing the origin of these snakes, it is rumored that pirates were the culprits who released the snakes to protect their treasure.

Therefore, Brazilian authorities strictly control tourists coming to the island.

Although many people feel scared when they hear the island’s bad name, some wildlife smugglers still come here.
