Health expert: ‘Don’t be subjective when new infections decrease’

Health expert: 'Don't be subjective when new infections decrease' 14

Mr. Tran Dac Phu, Senior Advisor of the Vietnam Public Health Emergency Response Center, said the above after the meeting of the National Steering Committee for Epidemic Prevention and Control, noon April 6.

According to the Ministry of Health, in the last four days, the number of infected cases dropped sharply, from 10 cases on April 3 to 3 cases on April 4, one case on April 5 and by the morning of April 6, Vietnam had not recorded any cases.

`New infections have tended to decrease over the past 5 days, which does not help evaluate anything, because the incubation period is up to 14 days. It must take 14 days to evaluate,` Mr. Phu said.

According to Mr. Phu, Vietnam did it `early and decisively`.

However, Mr. Phu used the example of Singapore. At first, they controlled the epidemic well thanks to controlling people entering from China and South Korea.

`Therefore, when new infections decrease, we still cannot be subjective but need to be more drastic,` Mr. Phu emphasized.

At this stage, Mr. Phu assessed that Vietnam has controlled and tested many people entering the country, but not many screening tests in the community.

Vietnam is still fighting the epidemic according to the motto `prevent, detect, isolate, localize and suppress the epidemic`.

According to him, now the main concern is cases in the community.

`If Vietnam does not do well, the epidemic will flare up like in other countries,` Mr. Phu said.

An example of this problem is `patient 237`, a Swede with leukemia, entered the country in December 2019, just discovered to be infected with nCoV, with a complicated travel history.

`Phase two has different epidemiological developments than the first phase, and the number of cases, especially infections in the community, increases rapidly. We must be drastic, otherwise all the efforts of phase one will be wasted.

Mr. Phu advised that during this period, people should not be subjective, especially comply with social distancing, in fact, do not allow sick people to come into contact with healthy people and vice versa.

In the next 15 days, if the epidemic tends to decrease, the whole country can relax social distancing, but there will be other measures appropriate to the situation, because the epidemic is still lingering.

Mr. Tran Dac Phu.

At the national steering committee meeting this morning, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam summarized that by April 6, Vietnam had gone through a month since phase 2 of the epidemic, 2 and a half months since the first case of infection was detected.

`It can be affirmed that up to this moment, Vietnam has been controlling the epidemic,` said Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam.

However, the Deputy Prime Minister said that the epidemic in the world is still developing very complicated and unpredictable.
